My Private Practice Social Media Policy

Private Practice Social Media Policy

This document outlines office policies related to use of Social Media.

Friending

Dr. Rousseau and Dr. Schwartz do not accept friend requests from current or former patients on any social networking site. Adding patients as friends on these sites can compromise confidentiality and privacy.

Interacting

Please do not use SMS (mobile phone text messaging) or messaging on Social Networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook, or LinkedIn to contact Dr. Rousseau or Dr. Schwartz. These sites are not secure and messages may not be read in a timely fashion. Do not use Wall postings, @replies, or other means of engaging with Dr. Rousseau or Dr. Schwartz in public online. Engaging with providers this way could compromise your confidentiality. It may also create the possibility that these exchanges become a part of your legal medical record and will need to be documented and archived in your chart.

If you need to contact your provider between sessions, the best way to do so is by phone.

Email

Dr. Schwartz and Dr. Rousseau prefer to not interact with patients using email. Both physicians maintain an email account linked to the business, (ie – laurenschwartzmd@okcpsychiatry.com). Please be aware, this is an office manager account, it is NOT to be used to communicate personal information, therapeutic or medication issues and is ABSOLUTELY NOT for emergency contact. It is checked on frequent basis by our office manager for business matters during business hours only, therefore you should not assume that messages left via email will be seen immediately by either physician. If you need to communicate with Dr. Schwartz or Dr. Rousseau, phone is the best approach. Please do not send scanned medical records via email. Our fax is a secure fax and we insist, for your privacy and confidentiality, all records be faxed to our office (405) 755.6900. If you choose to contact the office by email, please recognize that email is not completely secure or confidential. Be aware that all emails are retained in the logs of your and our Internet service providers. While it is unlikely that someone will be looking at these logs, they are, in theory, available to be read by the system administrator(s) of the Internet service provider.

Conclusion

Thank you for taking the time to review our Social Media Policy. If you have questions or concerns about any of these policies and procedures, please bring them to our attention so that we can discuss them.
